Social Network Withdrawals

I have officially been kicked off FaceBook for almost two weeks. At first it was a blessing. I found time that had been previously spent “talking” through a computer screen.

I assumed it was a glitch. Temporary. Nothing to be concerned about…all my Notes and pictures, well, they’d still be there when my account was finally unlocked.

Now? I’m not so sure.

I finally received a response from Facebook today. “Your account was disabled because your behavior on the site was identified as harassing or threatening to other people on Facebook. Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:

• Sending friend requests to people you don’t know
• Regularly contacting strangers through unsolicited Inbox messages
• Soliciting others for dating or business purposes”

I still don’t know what I did wrong. I often friend others who play similar games, but I have done that since I first joined facebook. I have never sent strangers inbox messages, and I have most DEFINITELY never solicited a date or business arrangement on Facebook.

Even after the e-mail I have no idea if my disabling is final or reversible. I just want my Notes, pictures, and friends back.

I will say that I have learned an important message, though. I was spending WAY too much time on Facebook.

What about you? Are you addicted to social networking? Would you miss Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter? What would you do with the time you found?

  • Could it have been an accident? I have ignored friend requests from people I don’t know, and will mark it that the sender is someone I do not know. I have never marked “report” or anything, though. I saw where someone else was kicked off fb, too, for some reason, they had no idea either. Maybe someone is hacking into accounts?
