I’ve spoke so much of submissive women that I’m not certain how to handle today’s focal person from the Bible for the #AtoZChallenge.
For the letter Q, I’ll be taking a look at the Queen of Sheba. She doesn’t get a name other than that. So, that’s what we’ll call her.
The Queen of Sheba went on a quest. A quest to get some answers.
The Queen of Sheba carried herself to Solomon not as a submissive woman, but as someone equal to Solomon. She came seeking answers to questions which would determine if he would be a good partner in business and a good political ally. Solomon answered all of her questions with ease and well above her expectations. She was absolutely blown away.
Praise the lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne as king to rule for him. Because God loves Israel and desires this kingdom to last forever, he has made you king over them so you can rule with justice and righteousness.”2 Chronicles 9:8
It might seem a rational inference to move from the Queen’s amazement to her confessing God as Lord of her own life, but her statement does not necessarily imply that she is personally accepting Solomon’s God as her own. She is simply acknowledging Solomon’s God.
However, we can learn quite a bit from the Queen’s quest.
The Queen was willing to travel a long way to speak to Solomon and get the truth she desired. She wasn’t satisfied with secondhand information.
She openly talked to Solomon about everything that was on her mind. She asked every question she had.
The Queen brought gifts. Her best gifts, not her secondhand gifts.
The Queen was open to learning something new instead of simply proving what she had already been told by others.
She came and saw the kings riches and wealth.
She wasn’t in a hurry. She spent the necessary time to dig into the truth.
If the Queen of Sheba was willing to do all of this to talk to Solomon, how much more should we be willing to do to talk to Jesus?
The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen. Matthew 12:42
The Queen knew all the right things to say and do as a seeker and still might have missed out on finding the King of Kings. Do we get distracted by the Solomons in our lives and fail to seek the Savior?
