Perseverance…Barely Keeping Your Head Above the Water
Today I had the priviledge of escorting 17 7th grade students around the St. Louis Zoo. We managed to see pretty much the whole zoo in about 3 1/2 hours.
The weather was B-E-A-UTIFUL! My students were very well behaved and seemed to enjoy themselves immensely!
Going through my photos tonight, I was surprised by this photo. It’s great, if I do say so myself. Good lighting, good clarity, position is good…for a quick snapshot while supervising it’s good.
Look at the sun shining on this hippopotamus’ face! He’s sunbathing! And yet the majority of his body is submerged…covered with water…out of sight, out of the sun….sinking.
This photo defines my life. I am always “barely keeping my head above the water”. Almost drowning, but not.
Like this hippo, all I have to keep above the water is my head. The sun can still shine upon my face even when I feel like I’m sure to be drowning.
When life seems to suck me in, all I really have to do is keep my head above the water.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
