Missouri Memories: Branson Vacation Style
Family vacations. Bring to mind long car rides, singing songs loudly or arguing over a radio station, bad motel rooms, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I only remember one real family vacation from my childhood. You could argue tow others, but one was just visiting out-of-state family for Thanksgiving and the other attending an out-of-state family wedding.
One summer, however, we did journey from our small, rural town on the east side of Missouri to Branson, the booming country music town in the southern west side of Missouri. For one brief moment we did the tourist thing as we spent a day at Silver Dollar City, time at Shepherd of the Hills, saw The Braschler’s music show, and simply enjoyed the Ozark Mountains.
While I did get to travel before I became an adult, this was my only experience on a family vacation as a child.
Red colored popcorn at a theater show. Pulling over by a rock wall for someone to be carsick. Riding Fire in the Hole for the first time. Holding on to one of those big ‘ole bullfrogs before the race. Those are things a child never forgets.
No matter how old they get.
Despite the many times I have returned to Branson, and the new memories built, I will always remember it as the only real family vacation I went on as child.
