I Don’t Want Your Religion!
Still struggling to define my word for 2014. What am I seeking? Yes, I’ve said it time and time again, God. I know that. But why? And what does that look like?
This morning after my Bible reading I popped over to Relevant Magazine’s website to see what was new or trending. I was looking for something to disagree with so I would have a controversial topic on which to end the month.
Instead, I found two articles that I have skimmed rather than read in full because their main ideas lead me to my first sentence. I don’t want to steal their words. I will provide links to their articles, though!
Until recently no one knew, or noticed somehow, that my family has been visiting churches. As soon as we began discussing the topic, however, my husband made an observation.
He’s correct. That is what has happened in the past week.
But it’s only happened after we’ve said we’re visiting churches and not while we’ve been in the doors of any churches. One church, out of many, has taken the time to ask us why we were there.
All of the sudden after months of pretty much no one inviting us to church, everyone is inviting us to church. We can’t go to church with everyone. And the question remains, what am I seeking?
I believe the Bible is the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). I believe Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16). I believe He died and rose again as a sacrifice for my sins (Romans 3:23-25). I believe that the Holy Spirit came to live within me when I first believed (Acts 4:31). I believe I have been called and commissioned to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 29:18-20).
I don’t want your religion.
I want to deepen my relationship with the Father. I want to form relationships with fellow believers that will challenge me and allow me to challenge them in return (Proverbs 27:17). I want a bond with servants of Christ who are sold out and willing to go to the extreme to take His message of salvation to our community (Acts 1:8).
What about you? Do you have Jesus? If not, do you have questions? Are you seeking to fill that something inside of you that never seems to be satisfied?
He’s the answer. I’d love to walk you through the Scripture and help you see how a relationship with Him is what you are seeking. Please feel free to contact me here or at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need someone to talk to about your relationship with Christ.
Folks, it really isn’t about religion. It’s all about relationship.
