Fresh Start to Spread Hope
The start of school represents many things to me. Perhaps the biggest thing it represents is something I love: a fresh start.
Each year as school begins, I am reminded that I get a chance to try again. A new group of students. A new attempt to teach the material. A new chance to create the best learning environment I’m capable of providing students.
I wonder how many individuals who work in typical 40 hour week year-round jobs feel like they get a fresh start yearly.
I know a secret, though.
I don’t need to wait for a new school year for a fresh start. An individual working a typical job doesn’t have to wait for a new year, or a job change, or any other major event for a fresh start.
Every single day is an opportunity for a fresh start.
All we have to do is make a decision to start over. Leave yesterday and the gunk attached to it left in the past and start each day with an open slate.
21Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:21-24
Everyone needs a do over. A fresh start. A chance to try again.
I offer that experience to every student who enters my door daily. Yesterday’s failures, yesterday’s successes, yesterday’s emotions, stay there and I welcome everyone to try again today.
