Don’t Wait. He IS!
Close your eyes and ask someone to read these Scriptures aloud to you. Try to picture what the bystanders saw that day.
From noon until three it was dark. We aren’t talking about storm clouds, we’re talking God phenomenon. The darkness could have represented what Jesus endured on the cross, it could have represented God’s wrath with what humanity was doing to His son, or it could have represented humanity as a whole. When we take any form of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) out of the picture, we remove all light.
Jesus cried out to His Father. When no visible answer came, He died willingly. Verse 50 says, “…and yielded up His spirit.” Christ died willingly.
Upon His death, there were immediate results. The veil was torn in two and an earthquake happened that split rocks in two.
And all of the sudden, the soldiers guarding Him, who crucified Him, knew who the man they just crucified had been. Unfortunately, the Centurion says “was” instead of “is”. Too late, and with no understanding, does the man recognize Jesus as God’s Son.
Good Friday. It seems so sad, and maybe even scary, to many who read the Scripture about that day today, but Jesus’ crucifixion, His willingness to die for our sins, is fulfillment of prophecy and something to remember with great reverence.
God loved YOU (and ME) so much that He sent His own Son as a sacrifice to die on that cross so that we could experience a relationship with Him that would restore our relationship with God.
I almost asked, “What have you done for Him?” but that isn’t the right question. God doesn’t want you to DO anything for Him right now. God wants you to RECEIVE His love by accepting His Son Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior so that you can spend all of eternity with both of them. That eternity will start at the second you make the choice.
Some will wait too long. The Centurion and the guards speak words that seem to indicate they finally got it, but did they? He was.
No, He IS.
Don’t wait until it’s too late friends. Don’t wait until the sky is dark. Don’t wait until He comes again and calls His saints to meet Him in the air.
These people didn’t believe it would really happen while they were alive and it did. Don’t take the same chance!
Celebrate this Easter season with a NEW LIFE in Christ! He’s waiting with arms stretched wide open to welcome you home!
