ALL Drenched in the Spirit

The Holy Spirit has descended in a Rushing Mighty Wind. The Reactions to the Rushing Mighty Wind were varied and brought about yet another response. We get to witness a Spirit of Change brought about by the infilling of the Holy Spirit. And now we find Peter preaching a sermon he didn’t prepare to preach.

But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’ Acts 2:16-21

Peter’s jumps straight from we aren’t a bunch of drunk men to Old Testament prophecy. Straight from a defense to a Bible study.

Why?

Let’s look.

Verse 17: I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

The crowd had literally just watched this happen. The Spirit of the Lord had always been present, but prior to the ascension He had been sprinkled more than poured. We just had the privilege of watching the Holy Spirit descend on a corporate group and fill them all at one time.

God’s Spirit had not been merely sprinkled; it had been liberally poured out!!!

We must be careful not to judge services where large groups of people accept Jesus, announce callings, and rededicate their lives as merely emotionalism. God does pour out His Spirit liberally on corporate gatherings and all who are in the house can be filled at once! Praise the Lord!!!

No one is left out. God is not a respecter of persons. Sons, daughters, young, old, and servants alike will all be filled with the Spirit. They will prophesy, have visions, have dreams, see wonders and signs, and WHOEVER calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I love this passage from Joel that Peter quotes here.

I didn’t fully understand it for many years until I heard testimony of a friend who had a dream. I’m going to paraphrase the dream here for a modern day example.

A pastor friend had been having church in a home with a small group of people. He had a dream one night that he was preaching in the local Nazarene church. Knowing he wasn’t Nazarene, he couldn’t see that the dream was anymore than that. But the dream kept coming, eventually to the point it was keeping him up at night. God was telling him he would preach in that church. Not long after the dreams started, the pastor found out the Nazarene church building was being put up for sale. He had no intention of planting a church, but guess what their small house congregation did?

I didn’t do the story justice. I’ll have to contact the pastor and see if he’ll write a guest post about the experience for me. However, in a denomination where I had never heard anything like this it influenced me greatly and I started reading my Bible to see what it was about.

And I discovered that I wasn’t left out. I, a daughter, would prophesy, perhaps see visions, and most definitely have His Spirit poured out liberally upon me. I wasn’t left out.

Sisters and brothers, YOU aren’t left out. ALL FLESH. It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, what heritage you descend from, what gender you are, IT DOESN’T MATTER! God created you. Sent His Son just for YOU! And his Holy Spirit is being liberally poured out just for YOU!

You simply have to accept it. Admit to God that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus is God’s Son, and confess that Jesus is your Lord and Savior and you will be filled!

If the Spirit has been dealing with you and you’d like someone to talk with or pray with, I’d love to counsel with you. Spiritual matters are personal. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail (mrs_tripp@hotmail.com) if you aren’t comfortable leaving your needs as a comment.
